Small Kākano Ipu - Seed Pod/Pot (Kawakawa/Peppertree)
Can be used to store tea or other treasures.
The decoration for this pot is inspired by the native nz peppertree, or kawakawa. The name kawakawa in te reo Māori refers to the bitter taste of the leaves, from kawa bitter.
Kawakawa is a versatile herb and one of the most important in Māori medicine. It has been used traditionally to treat cuts, wounds, stomach and rheumatic pain, skin disorders and toothache. The large, heart-shaped leaves were also a Māori symbol for courage and fortitude (Source: Maori Plantuse Database, Landcare Research NZ)
