Ceramic Yarn Bowls - Round
Ceramic Yarn Bowls - Round
Kōanga Firing, 2021
These bowls look beautiful and keep your precious yarn in perfect condition.
Thrown on the wheel by Sam then hand-sculpted with a Pongo/NZ Native Silver Fern koru design, these bowls are the perfect kohanga (nest or cradle) for your balls of yarn.
Working through a yarn bowl keeps your yarn from bouncing, rolling, tangling and gathering dust from other household surfaces as you work your way through a project.
They beautify your creative space too.
The koru is a spiral shape based on the appearance of a new unfurling pongo/silver fern frond. It is an integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattooing, where it symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace. Its shape "conveys the idea of perpetual movement," while the inner coil "suggests returning to the point of origin” (Te Ahukaramū Charles Royal, 'Māori creation traditions - Common threads in creation stories', Te Ara Encyclopedia of New Zealand)
